Hello, I’m Stanley Pranin, Editor of the Aikido Journal suite of websites.

Today I’d like to give you a walk-through of the content of the Aikido Journal Members Site, which is the largest archive of aikido-related materials in existence.

There are literally thousands of pages of content with over 1,700 documents, more than 10 thousand photos, over 100 videos, audio recordings, and an assortment of other items.

I realize that so much material can be intimidating, but I hope to help you get familiar with the documents we offer you, and how to navigate the website, through this tutorial.

Let’s get started…

First of all, we have the section of the website called the “navbar” which allows you to quickly find material through a series of dropdown menus arranged in alphabetical order.

We’re on the home page now, so let’s look first at the “Articles” section of the navbar. As you can see, when I hover over “Articles” there are 3 items in the list: Free articles, Member articles by keyword, and Member articles by title.

In the “free articles” section we currently offer about 50 items which will give you an idea of the quality and depth of our content.

Next is “Member articles by keyword,” which is a list of thousands of “keywords” linked to website posts that will help you find things quickly. An interesting exercise is to slowly go through the list and look for items that interest you. I’ll show you how to drill down to specific content in the next tutorial.

Then we have the “Member articles by title” section. This will give you a great feel for the wide range of content that awaits you when you consult the Aikido Journal Members Site.

Let me just scroll down toward the bottom of the list… It seems like it will never end!

Ok, now for “Audio”. Here we have a few recordings of one of my historical lectures, as well as a some Japanese interviews I conducted during my stay in Japan.

“Chronologies” has two items now, one a detailed chronology of the life of Aikido Founder Morihei Ueshiba, and another that lists the key events for Sokaku Takeda, Morihei Ueshiba’s famous jujutsu teacher.

The “Encyclopedia” contains over 800 items and contains the text of my book “The Encyclopedia of Aikido” published back in 1989. It was a sort of forerunner of a Wikipedia of Aikido, and a bit ahead of its time. It’s organized alphabetically for fast retrieval of information.

Next is “Interviews” which are divided into “free” and “member” interviews for paid subscribers, and right now there are about 170 interviews archived in this section.

This is the “Subscribe” link that will explain the one and two year paid subscription options we offer, and what you get when you subscribe to the Members Site. I hope you’ll take a good look and consider subscribing. Oh, and by the way, you get free downloadable videos and ebooks with your subscription as complimentary gifts. Please check it out.

Next is the “Store” link which takes you over to our shopping site where you’ll find a wealth of free and purchaseable items. There are some greatl study aids here that you’ll find extremely useful in your aikido practice and your understanding of the art’s background.

Now back to the navbar of the Members Site… we have “Videos,” which is a list of over 100 free and member videos that are highly informative and will familiarize you with the leading personalities of the aikido and Daito-ryu worlds.

Finally, we have a “Log out” link that will allow you to sign off from the website.

Well, there’s a lot more to show you and talk about that I will cover in the next tutorial, but I think this will serve as a good basic introduction.

Thanks for joining me. I’ll see you again soon!

My life’s work is hosted on the Aikido Journal Members Site which contains literally thousands of documents on all aspects of aikido. I would like to make available to you this incredible resource to help you answer any of your questions on the art. If you would be kind enough to take me up on this offer, we will give you free 3 downloadable products along with your two-year subscription or renewal. This offer will be valid through November 6th. Thank you!
