Interview with Dr. Yoji Kondo

When I was young, they formally started teaching judo or kendo in middle school, at the beginning of seventh grade. But the war ended before I was quite old enough, and the teaching or practicing of judo, kendo, and also aikido, which was not too well-known in those days, was forbidden by the Occupation Forces. In fact, Professor Tomiki and some of the judo and kendo leaders worked very hard to get that prohibition removed.
