I didn’t see him during that time because I was not released until 1948, three years after the end of the war. When I returned to Japan from Siberia, an admiral by the name of Sankichi Takahashi, who had been Commander-in-chief of the combined Japanese fleet, had just been released from Sugamo Prison [where Japanese war criminals were held].
